here are 5 things I thought were worth sharing this month:

1. There are still a couple of weeks before September arrives to get some reading done. Here are Sophie Thorpe's summer reading list and Richard Hemming MW's recommended books for the MW exam.

2. Emilie Aspeling was the last person to visit Isole & Olena under Paolo de Marchi's leadership. She wrote about the meeting in great detail, making it one of the most precise yet emotional accounts of Paolo's contributions to Chianti Classico.

3. Chris Boiling wrote about how various winemaking decisions have shaped Grattamacco over the last 30 years. This is by far the best interview I've seen with one of Italy's greatest winemakers, Luca Marrone.

4. Sales are this month's main stories in the world of wine: Villa Bucci was sold to the Veronesi family, Fabio Motta to Gussalli Beretta, Gusbourne is up for sale, and Accolade bought the entire wine portfolio of Pernod Ricard.

5. Erica Dent and Jim Gore are considered among the best WSET teachers in the world. Here's a short webinar they did for the already unmissable D3 Everyday newsletter by Kelly Liang. Pure gold!

PS. Scott LaFaro was a young and talented jazz double bass player who died at just 25 in a car accident. His finest playing can be heard on Bill Evans' Sunday at the Village Vanguard live recording starting with Gloria's Step, the first tune on the album.
