5 things about wine worth sharing this month.
Ciao everyone,
here are 5 things I thought were worth sharing this month:
UPCOMING EVENTS
19th May: SWIG Italian New Releases (for trade invite send me a DM on Instagram)
20th May: 2015 Long Live Brunello (for 67 Pall Mall members only)
7th and 8th September: Stella dell’Appennino (Modigliana, TBC)
10th September: 2021 Barolo del Comune (Bologna, for AIES members only)
13th and 14th September: WSET Level 2 at Corinthia Hotel
Doug Wregg, Emily Harman, and Jamie Goode have launched a new wine podcast, and it’s great. The episode on wine faults is my favourite so far. I’ve been discussing the brett vs. style debate for years and some of the sharpest perspectives are all here.
Sophie Thorpe wrote about Condrieu's comeback. The only issue is that all the great ones still cost a fortune. That said, under her recommendation, I tried Georges Vernay’s Le Pied de Samson. It might be one of the best “classic” bottle of Northern Rhône Viognier you can get for around £40 right now.
Donald Edwards did the impossible. He made me buy a newspaper. The new FT Weekend on “The Rules of Modern Dining” was so well done - even if I don't agree with everything. If you missed it in print, it’s online too (unfortunately behind paywall).
We’re in total tariff chaos. Jessica Dupuy did a great job explaining what it all means for the US wine industry.
RIP Giampaolo Gravina. One of the most thoughtful voices in Italian wine writing. An unpublished piece of his was recently shared by his colleagues. Please read it, especially if you’ve never come across his work before.
This month on One Bottle Three Questions, Dermot Sugrue discusses his preference to avoid malolactic conversion, the principles behind blending base wines for sparkling and the practical side of battling with nature in England.
PS. Weirdly enough, Hail to the Thief was the first Radiohead album I ever listened to. And I only did it because the cover looked cool. I recently went back to it and found so many incredible songs. Go to Sleep is the best one I had forgotten about.

This episode with Dermot is top, Nelson!
