Ciao everyone,
here are 5 things I thought were worth sharing this month:
I received several emails about the Barolo BYOW event at 67 Pall Mall, which sold out immediately in less than a couple of hours. Unfortunately, we are unable to release more tickets. Due to the high level of requests, future dates of events from 67 Pall Mall, SWIG, and WSET courses will be listed in this newsletter. Please keep an eye on your email closer to the events for ticket releases. If you are not on our events list for SWIG, please send an email to james@swig.co.uk to join.
9th and 10th December - WSET Level 2 at Corinthia Hotel (only 1 place left, you can book your spot here).
I haven't been active online in the last month as I finished my D3 exams for the WSET Diploma. Now waiting for the results, most likely to come at the end of January. If any of you are interested in starting this journey, I highly recommend signing up for Kelly Liang's newsletter (new rounds coming next year for the following exam) and using her recommended D3 study links. You should also consider joining the WSET Diploma Group on Facebook and religiously following anything that Alex Tsui has to say. All the flashcards I made to prepare for the exam are also free on Brainscape!
Academie du Vin has a brand new magazine/blog section on their website called Vinosity, with great people contributing, so make sure to check that out.
I have been rereading an article on wine and The Bible after Jamie Goode posted it on X. I'm not particularly religious, but seeing other perspectives on wine, especially when well written, should be of interest to everyone.
New UK wine laws have recently been enacted, and I believe it's important for you to be informed about them. The always brilliant Robert Joseph has analysed them while expressing his doubts.
I am currently reading "Wine and War" after listening to Susie and Peter's Wine Blast podcast episode on the best wine books out there. I also purchased the first edition of The Atlas of Wine. I'm still struggling with podcasting, but if there's one based on wine that I would recommend, this one is at the top of my list now.
PS. For some reason, the 2019 Palmento Caselle from Salvo Foti reminded me of one of the greatest albums of all time: 'Per Un Amico' by Premiata Forneria Marconi. It has been on repeat for the past month. If Bach had had an electric guitar, he probably would have written something similar.
Thanks for reading! This newsletter is free for all readers. The best way to support me is to like this post and follow me on LinkedIn or Instagram, buy wines from SWIG or, if you can read in Italian, buy a copy of my wine magazine Verticale.
A bit late to the show, but thanks for sharing your deck! I much prefer yours than Jennie's 3000+ card deck I currently include. So if I may, I'd love to include it in the resource index!
